First Section of Síu Lihm Tào 小念頭 – Pt1
Hold the proper Tāan Sáu position
Many of you might know that when we do the first section of Síu Lihm Tào 小念頭 we should perform it very slowly. But how slow should we be? This depends on how slow you can go and how long you want to do the form for. So what are the benefits of slow movement?
The first section is for building up Gūng Lihk功力. Gūng Lihk is the power of the skill, like the engine in a car, the bigger the engine the more power it has. This means the longer we can do the first section for, the more power we can generate. This is because the Qi and blood circulation will be stronger, the bones will stronger and the legs will be bigger. This is why the movements should be slow. However Hōi Máh 開馬 – Open the Stance, Mark the Centreline and Chūng Kyùhn 冲拳 – Punch should all be done at a normal speed. We should move slowly when we start to move the Tāan Sáu 攤手. If we are going to practise for half an hour, then the Tāan Sáu should take roughly three minutes. The middle finger of the Tāan Sáu should be at the Centre, throat height with the elbow in and two fists in front of the chest. For the last 20 seconds or so we should hold this proper Tāan Sáu position, as holding this for a while to help us to train the correct position of the Tāan Sáu.
